This prologue sequence is one of the very few initial scenes not part of the original ideas I came up with in 2006-2009. While I have reworked a lot of the dialogue in the other episodes over the years, the core events and ideas are the same as they always were – hence a few rough spots! But when I rebooted Cold Reset for the third and final time, I felt an introductory sequence would be a fun addition to the story.

The story of Evokado! has been knocking around my head for many years. Initially, it existed as a comedic ghost hunting adventure, told through short comic strips, called The Wizardblock Chronicles. There was a totally separate idea in my head revolving around another world and a conspiracy of powerful tyrannical families, called The Blood and the Quill. I tried writing that as a novel, as a picture-book, working it as a videogame, and even once or twice as its own comic. But something was always missing… Now, I’ve combined the two ideas into one inter-weaving story, called Evokado! and it finally feels complete and 100% right.

The Beta Edition of this comic was very quickly scraped together from a working script in order to be printed in time for Thought Bubble Comic Convention 2024, where Meridian Six was tabling. There are a few gems in here that I’m very proud of, but also a few pages I’ll be changing. I also have some additional shots to work into the scenes. So, the Beta Edition, truly is its own unique comic that will never be seen beyond its very small print run – grab yourself a copy of the remaining stock from the Store while you can! Once it’s gone, it’s gone!

I drew the opening chapter of The Black Mist, almost fully, three times, before finally settling on this story – intros are hard! However, the other scenes I drew also canonically take place in the story a little later down the line; I could just never figure out at what point in time to start! So, you will likely see those scenes eventually, when the story gets there.

Inspired by the ‘Myst’ videogame series, amongst others, this was a University project I put together over the latter parts of lockdown, with production lasting from October 2021 through to February 2022. Set, not-quite-canonically, in Black Mist’s headquarters, this puzzle game delves into Ancient Egyptian mythology and muses on the afterlife.

This was the first proper chapter of my ideal “reboot” of Cold Reset. I’d settled on the art style I wanted going forward, with the idea being that it would evolve from a very basic form into a very detailed form, eventually catching up to my previous iteration of Cold Reset 6, then continuing from there in my fully-fledged art style. But I hated how basic I’d drawn this chapter, so I went back over it all with shading and lighting and some emphasising line-art – you should have seen the mess it was before…

This was the first chapter where I utilised 3D models in the backgrounds. I’ve improved a lot at modelling since, so I have plans to continue to use 3D in upcoming projects! Also, I had to rewrite a fair bit of dialogue in this chapter compared to others. Worth noting!

There are some very early cameos in this episode by characters later seen properly in The Black Mist and Evokado!

This is a side-scrolling 2D platformer I made as part of my University studies over the course of the initial Covid lockdown. I used YouTube tutorials and very basic Unreal Engine 4 Blueprinting to put it together, with a very rough system called Paper2D – something very ill-covered on YouTube! Using what I learned through the process, I was able to get many of the specific results I wanted for the game.
